When you workout, it's great to target different muscle groups at the same time. This means doing exercises that involve more than one muscle group, like squats that work your legs, butt and core together. It's efficient and helps you become stronger all-round!
Body has three main types of muscles: cardiac, smooth, and skeletal.
Many exercises don't just work one muscle. Take the biceps curl, for instance. It's famous for targeting the biceps, but it also involves muscles like the brachialis and brachioradialis in your arm, plus other muscles in your shoulder and core that help you lift the weight smoothly. So, even though you might be focusing on one muscle, others are lending a hand too.
When you're planning your workouts, it's important to realize that some exercises work more than one muscle group. Usually, if an exercise involves bending more than one joint, it'll likely work multiple muscles at the same time. So, even if you're trying to target one muscle, other muscles might still pitch in to help out.
When we are training a muscle group, we want to see which muscle group is getting trained the most in addition to the part we are training. For example, when we are training the back, the biceps are the second most trained muscle group after the back.
Many people find it helpful to bring muscle groups closer to each other. For example, you may want to engage your shoulders and arms together because many exercises, such as rows, use both parts of the body. Here's an example of how you can mix and match muscle groups based on the detailed information we discussed.
Sometimes when you want to see the size and shape of your arms, you can also train different muscle groups, such as triceps with biceps.
